![]() ![]() *As I understand, the use of the code was part of military ordnance contracts. The "secret" codes seem more along the lines of meticulous German record keeping overkill than any really serious need to protect industry. They knew where Mauser and Walther and Sauer were located, but bombing small arms makers was not nearly as important as bombing synthetic oil and gasoline plants, ball bearing plants, and transportation hubs. While the idea of concealing the fact that some leather shop was making holsters has a certain appeal, when push came to shove, the Allies could not have cared less. I doubt, in fact, that any of those codes were much of a secret or that it much mattered. ![]() ![]() The intent was both to prevent the enemy from gaining production data from captured arms and to conceal the sources. Mauser pistols were never made under German army contract, so they never showed any of the Mauser codes.* FWIW, Mauser was assigned several codes for the K.98k, S/42K, S/42, 42, byf and svw. The Walther code was "ac" and never changed throughout the war I doubt it was much of a secret by 1940 or so. Thanks ALOT! I am not able to post pictures right now but will upload them in the morning when I get to my computer. These I believe are the same, but I haven't been able to look at them close enough to be sure. There is a mark on the bolt and under the bolt just under the ejection port. The serial number can be seen on the side of the grip and on the right side of the slide. ![]() Any information you can give me about this piece will be greatly appreciated. I am going to attempt to upload some pics of the gun for inspection. This struck me as strange because all the ones I've ever seen had something on the slide. It is virtually unengraved in that it doesn't even have the walther name on it anywhere except on the plastic grips and on one side of the magazine. I noticed something strange about the gun though in that it doesn't display any of the engraving on the gun slide. From what I've already been able to obtain from searching this site and looking at the serial number chart this gun should be dated around 1942. I have a Vintage Walther PP 7.65mm pistol that I recently bought and I'm interested in learning more about it. ![]()
